70 Girls - Homeschooled at a Monastery

Recently, there seems to be an increased interest for lay families in America to involve their children in programs run by various Orthodox monasteries. I have discovered week-long spiritual youth camps and small schools forming, then I came across this opportunity in Arizona which was a pleasant surprise.

Since 1995, the sisterhood of St. Paisius Orthodox Monastery, a women’s coenobitic community, has welcomed teenage girls who wish to live at the monastery while continuing their studies through a home-school curriculum. Almost 70 girls have lived with them, ranging in age from 10 to 17, coming from homes all over the country.

Check out http://www.stpaisiusmonastery.org/hphs.htm

Has anyone ever visited this monastery?

I'd love to hear about your experience.

I live in AZ, and although I haven't yet been to this monastery, I want to!! I know girls who have lived there and have enjoyed their experience, and I've always thought it would be a nice option for my daughter if that's what we all desired.

I've been here and know 2 girls who have schooled there. One is now a novice.
It is an amazing, lovely monastery.
I can't wait to go back.

I did attend this school back in 1998
& 1999. I had a good experience. I can't say its easy, but in some ways very fulfilling. I was a postulate for a while, but I was only 14 at the time, and was too young. I am now married with two children, and my Husband is attending St. Tikhons Seminary. My sister has been a nun at this monastery since 1994.
